HP officejet pro 8710 Review

Are you looking for extended functionality rather than what the printers just do? The HP Officejet Pro 8710 comes to your rescue as it is one of a kind.

It is an all in one variant which doesn’t limit itself to just printing but also helps in scanning, copying and faxing.

It is also manufactured in a convenient size to fit on your desk easily hence the name Officejet. Moreover, the best thing about this printer is that you don’t need to have a wired connection in order to print.

It has wireless connectivity, therefore you can connect your mobile phone without a wire to the printer and print seamlessly. At workery Champ, I wrote pretty detailed guide about wireless printers under $100 if you are looking for a wireless printer in that range, it is a great resource.

This model from HP also just weighs 11.54 kg and its design is compact making it easier to move without any hassles.

The 2.65 inch of touchscreen display allows you to conveniently control the printer easily and this printer features multiple connectivity options for the user ease of use.

The OfficeJet Pro 8710 is Instant Ink Ready which for a small monthly fee, the printer itself notify HP when it is running low on ink to which a fresh cartridge is shipped to your door.

This system keeps you away from monitoring the ink level manually and you never go out of ink.

1. Functions

“All-in-one Printer”

If you take a look into HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, you will find that it is an excellent printer offering the great features and it produces a resolution of 2400 x 1200 DPI (Dots Per Inch). As we know, this is an all-in-one printer with all 3 options such as Copy, Scan and Fax.

The scan and copy feature make the best use of this printer, especially in the offices.

You can easily scan documents and make its copy without any interaction between your printer and the device. It is an essential feature for users.

Faxing is another great feature that comes out of the box in this printer. It is another handy feature for the users which simply allows you to send fax easily to another fax number.

All you need to do is give access to the internet connection to the printer either with the built-in ethernet or the Wi-Fi.

Coming to printing function, speed is one of its efficiency. It is the best among most of the home printers available in the market today. This printer Officejet Pro 8710 produces sharp and vibrant pictures that are high enough for charts and crisp graphics.

For your scanning requirements, it has a built-in high-quality scanner with up to 1200 dpi optical resolution. It efficiently captures the relevant content and eliminates blank pages during the scanning process, helping you avoid wastage.

If you look deeper into the functions of this printer, all of its functions are efficient but on the other hand, it can be a con to buy this printer for some users who barely prints two to ten pages per week.

Since the cartridge prints thousands of pages, therefore for light users, the cartridge can dry out.

The functions of this printer can be challenging for less tech-savvy people. If you’re one of them, then get ready to go through the printer manual once or twice to learn all the functions of this printer.

2. Printing Speed

18 Pages Per Minute”

The Officejet Pro 8710 is one of the most popular and fastest home office printers. The speed for printing the black is about 22 pages in a minute while for the colour it is 18 pages in a minute.

It is fastest to print one-sided documents while almost half the speed less when it comes to two-sided documents. For two-sided documents, it prints around 12 pages in a minute.

The printer is rated to print a whopping 25,000 pages per month, making it the best printer for the home office or the small business.

This printer makes use of the HP 952 ink series, the most efficient ink in the market.

The additional features such as wireless printing from portable devices making the printing process much faster.

When the printer is combined with HP Ink Cartridge and the paper with Colorlok technology, you don’t have to be afraid of getting the ink smudge in the process of highlighting charts and documents.

The office can have documents which can be confidential, therefore, HP Officejet Pro 8710 has a privacy function that helps protect sensitive and confidential printing jobs.

Despite all the functions and capabilities of this printer, the downside of this printer is that it is not as heavy-duty compared to the grown-up sibling of this printer. It is sure that it is one of the best printers for light business users and home offices.

Apart from the printing speed, the paper handling of this printer is much better compared to other printers in the same price range.

This HP Officejet Pro 8710 comes with a 250-sheet input tray that works with a vast collection of media sizes ranging from 3 x 5″ to 8.5 x 14″.  Plus, there is a 50-sheet ADF and a letter-sized flatbed that can easily go with pages as large as 8.5 x 11″ to print whatever size you need to print.

3. Connectivity

“Wired/Wireless”

The Officejet Pro 8710 is clearly a good pick however if you’re technologically challenged then this printer might be a little hard to operate. Although, it comes with clear 2.65” colour touchscreen which allows selecting the functionalities you need.

The features like Mobile Printing can be easily done with HP’s Smart App or you can use AirPrint Capability which is also available.

The printer has built-in wireless and ethernet option for connectivity making it easier to connect it to the internet for fax or printing via portable devices.

Plugin the printer to the wall socket, and then turn on the printer. After it successfully turns on, then set your preferences.

Make sure you don’t connect a USB cable at this time. This is only done at the time of software installation.

To set your preferences on the printer control panel, touch your preferred language and country/region, and then touch Yes to confirm your choices.

Step 3: Load Paper

Install the HP SETUP ink cartridges that came in the box with your printer. For installing the cartridges, open the ink cartridge access door.

After opening, wait until the cartridge holder stops moving and comes to the rest. Now carefully, peel off the wrapping from the cartridge and then place them in the cartridge holder.

The printer starts an initialization process. It is normal for the printer to make noises during this process. After the process completes, the printer prints an alignment page.

Step 4: Install Ink Cartridges

Install the HP SETUP ink cartridges that came in the box with your printer. For installing the cartridges, open the ink cartridge access door.

After opening, wait until the cartridge holder stops moving and comes to the rest. Now carefully, peel off the wrapping from the cartridge and then place them in the cartridge holder. The printer starts an initialization process.

It is normal for the printer to make noises during this process. After the process completes, the printer prints an alignment page.

Step 5: Install Print Software

Your HP printer hardware is now set up and you can install the printing software. Please do not connect the printer to the Computer until unless it is shown by the printing software to do so.

HP does provide the software disc in the package by default, however, if you don’t have disc option then you can easily download the printing software from HP website.

4. Display

The display is sharp LCD that shows the crisp colour and easily visible settings for operating the printer more easily and efficiently.

  • Type: LCD with IR touch function
  • Display size: 67.31 mm (2.65 inches) diagonal
  • Colour or black and white: Color

The printer has a medium-size 2.7-inch display screen with a touchscreen interface. It provides all the necessary functions of the printer to be carried out with the ease of your touch. The touchscreen size is big enough to operate easily by anyone.

5. Ink Cartridge Cost:

The HP Officejet Pro 8710 works with an HP 952 inkjet cartridges that come in 4 colours black, magenta, yellow and cyan.

The HP 950 black cartridge can print at least 1,000 pages and if you want to print more than 1,000 pages then you can go for HP 952XL cartridge which can print at least 2,000 pages.

However, each standard cyan, magenta, yellow colour HP 952 cartridges can print at least 700 pages while each high yield coloured HP 952XL colour cartridge can print at least 1,600 pages.

The amazing fact about this printer is that it prints the black and white; and the colour in the same price range.

If you calculate the price per page, then it stands at almost near to 2.3 cents per paper of printing for both 952XL cartridges.

It makes the HP Officejet 8710 Pro, the most efficient inkjet printer for moderate office use.

Here is the detailed table for cost per page with different cartridges for HP Pro 8710 Printer:

CartridgeBlackMagentaCyanYellow
HP 9524.3 Cents/Page3.4 Cents/Page3.4 Cents/Page3.4 Cents/Page
HP 952 XL2.3 Cents/Page2.2 Cents/Page2.2 Cents/Page2.2 Cents/Page

The ink is really great, this printer holds up towards most of the home office printers. The Officejet Pro 8710 prints resolution of 1200 dpi which is sufficient enough for crisp charts and photos, with vibrant hues.

When the use of hp ink cartridges and paper with colorlok technology, you can write and highlight documents and charts without the worry of smudging texts or images.

However, if you have a priority for photo printing, you will have to look somewhere else other than this printer.

This OfficeJet Pro 8710 is not a photo printer therefore the blacks aren’t dense for great and crisp photos.

The Ink cartridges are efficient as you saw and they have high yield but if you’re not a heavy user or say you print around 2-3 pages a week then the chances are high that the ink may dry out easily before you can consume all of it.

6. My verdict

Overall, I must say the HP Officejet is one of the best and efficient printers in the market. It is efficient because of it’s all-in-one functions i.e, printing, scanning, faxing, and copying facilities from one machine itself and have a bunch of other advanced features.

This way you get maximum productivity and enhanced employee performance.

In short, the HP Officejet Pro 8710 printer provides fast speed, professional quality, and never-ending connectivity options like Wi-Fi and ethernet.

It is a wonderful blend of wireless convenience and industrial-level durability. A very little cons added to list, this HP unit makes the best choice and potentially a good fit for a micro office or a small business.

I fell in love with printing ever since my dad bought the very first printer way back in the early 2000s. It's crazy how things have changed over the years. But I keep track of whatever happens in this industry, and I've set up this blog to share my insights with you all.
